Outdoor learning space

Dear The board of trusteesIMG_20170518_122406.jpg

Outdoor learning areas are places where you can learn safely in the nice sun and feel the breeze blow through your hair while you write. That's what I would want to be doing right now but I’m not because the learning space outside room 11 is HORRIFIC! It’s terrible because of all the moss on the bricks, rocks sticking up out of the ground, the seats are too small, we are not kindergarteners we are middle schoolers and I am here to tell you that the courtyard could do with some touching up.

You imagine coming to HNI and you see that courtyard, it’s just shocking. If someone came to HNI and of course they liked it when they get to the courtyard they will just be staring at it, shaking they and asking “what is this place used for?” And when you say it’s a outdoor learning space they will be gone before you can said “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” and that is the truth. It’s boring and bland; who would ever want to work out there it’s just colourless, lifeless, dull it’s just like plain vanilla.

“I’m just reading my book, yay nothing can go wrong. AHHH!” And there goes that innocent kid that is now missing their two front teeth, thank you very much. The place is dangerous, rocks are poking up out of the ground and that drain is making a very big hole in the middle of the teaching space that can be awfully harmful if you don’t look where you're going, it’s extremely hazardous. IMG_20170518_122437.jpg

“Look person#1, what a complete waste of space”
“Yeah person#2 let's go to a different  learning space”
“OK” That is probably what goes on inside someone's head when they look at what a waste of space the courtyard outside room 11 because believe me it’s the biggest misspent space I have ever seen. It’s big enough for a whole other classroom but still it is unused.

So the new technology block look nice, so does the eating area with the new BBQ tables, so I ask you; why couldn’t we have a nice new outdoor learning space?

Mama Mia Pizza

For term, 1 all the classes got spit into 2 groups. For my class there's 11A and 11B, I'm 11 be so I did Food Tech and 11A did Science Tech. For year 7's which I am our main focus is on designing and making a Mama Mia Pizza and year 8's their own Burger. The thing was that we had to do it with a partner and mine was Mia, Funny right we're making Mama Mia Pizza's and my partners name is Mia. Anyway on side I thought the pizza looked lovely, it was a Shark we called it Jaws and I thought it was really cute what do you think?
And here it is the finished pizza, but the picture is upside down sorry. If you can't see there's Sharks head with it's 3 fins that have ham and salami on it and a BIG smiling mouth with Red capsicum for the teeth. We tried making the eyes but they turned out to just look like glasses so I just went along with it and put on the things that sit on your eyes. The reason there's a line of BBQ sauce down the middle is because we have to share the pizza, I know right I WANT IT ALL! No I'm joking, so we made the line just so we knew where to cut it. I think it turned out GREAT and I wouldn't change a thing, it also tasted AMAZING!🍕
Here we are, one person had to cut or grate the toppings while the other person rolls and makes the dough into the shape you want.

Now to put the pizza sauce on and as you can see I am cutting up onions right now so I'm crying, it's true onions make you cry. To be honest I don't know the teacher had taken this photo...oh well to late now.

And more me crying...will this ever end. Now you can see I had taken WAY to long so my partner came to help me.

Next it was time to put on the toppings together and then put it in the oven. Man Pizza shops do this every day... WOW!

After it came out the oven we were tolled to put it next to our plans to see if it looked anything like we wanted, which it didn't but I still thought it was amazing and tasty.
FINALLY we got to put on our pizza face and show our FANTASTIC Jaws pizza!😁

Guess the animal

The breeze grew colder and colder as it blew through the mammals fur as it hunted for food, lucky that it’s 10cm of blubber under the skin can keep it warm from that cold Arctic air. It’s black skin not visible dew to its fur as white as snow. It uses it’s 42 teeth to bite into its prey which it can smell from a mile away and is why it is the largest carnivore that lives on land.  It is easy to tell a male from a female for the male weighs up to 680 kg and female is about half as much as the male. It was also the mascot for the 1988 winter olympics in Calgary, Canada. Its scientific name is “Unrsus Maritimus” What animal am I talking about? Look below to see the answer↴

Answer: Polar bear

Character traits Embarrassing

Embarrassing Charter Trait

I tried opening my mouth but I’m feared only the ghost of my mistake would come out. I mumbled to myself “everything will be fine, everything will be fine!” Those words just repeated in my head as I wondered if they had notice. I tried to continue but nothing came out, I couldn’t breathe. I looked side to side hoping a teacher would notice, getting me off the stage but NO they just watched like it was some kind of magic show. My fear came from my stomach and up my throat and over my friend, classmates, bulles and teachers. It was out now, there was no way I could get out of it now maybe before but not now. I swallowed hard before taking in a big breathe and accepting my fate. I got taken to the back room while the rest of the school cleaned themselfs “sa... sa... sorry mam I ju... just”  I swallowed again but this time I was breathing deep, my heart was beating like I was trying to race a cheater, this was it!

Character traits anger

Anger charter trait

Steam came out my ears, my eyes had dips, my hand formed a fist, my eyes popped I screamed and jumped onto my brother. “WHERE IS IT” I screamed in his face, he pointed to a empty bin or so I thought. “I’LL KILL YOU FOR THIS, MARK MY WORDS, YOU WILL NEVER GET TO SEE THE NEXT SUNRISE!” I yelled as he ran away. “I’m coming” those words repeated as I tried to make my brother cry for what he did. There was NO WAY I could forgive him, he had taken the one thing I truly loved away from me. I turned my head around the corner, my teeth chattering, my beloved ted in my mind as I sneaked around the house. My toes started to crush together as I creeped around the house until I stepped on an old piece of wood coursing the whole house to creak, then I heard the sound of someone  jumping onto a bed. I ran into the bedroom  and there he was under his covers, he was holding many things, his toy rabbit, fox, moose and cow but the one thing I noticed was….ted. My fist turned but to a hand, my toes uncrushed, the steam cooled down and my eyes dipped the other way. I fall on my knees and gave my brother a BIG hug.
“I’m sorry”

Happy character trait

My cheeks glew bright red but in a good way, I felt warm inside. I felt like I could fly as my lips touched my eyes and my eyes opened wide. I screamed with joy that the whole neighbourhood heard. Me and my family jumped up and down like an earthquake then my mum and dad started to cry as I told them “It’s shorter than it sounds.” Then I started to cry saying “I’ll miss you.” I stayed up all night excited and scared for the journey ahead. Finally morning came which had taken forever, I pack my bags and gave my family all a big hug as skipped out the door cry with a grin on a face, I was going to Harvard university!

Mandarin name tags of awesomeness

Ni hao,
HNI has been getting mandarin lessons from our Laoshi (Teacher) tracy. We have learnt our names, animal year, how to ask and answer questions and how to say good morning, afternoon and evening. But the thing I want to talk about is our mandarin name tags made out of card. We had lots of colours to choose from such as Lan se, Luse, Huangse, Chenzi and Hong (Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red) and I picked Lan se or blue. Then we folded it into 3 even lines and on one side we wrote down our mandarin names and symbols on and to give it the chinese look I drawed a panda bear. Next on the opposite side we wrote our english names and just to make it fit in I drawed a polar bear. Last you'd sellotape it together to make what looks like a tent and there you go you've made your own Mandarin name tag, great job!

My name in mandarin is Laola,
and this is something that DEFINITELY think you should make this yourself at home or at school if your teacher lets you, it's really easy to make and looks really styley to put on you deck shelf ANYWHERE it's yours and after all it has your name on it.

Outstanding art term 1

This term room 11 have been doing lots of fun  art activities and  I would like to show you some of mine. We have do lots of artwork this term such as something we call stuby art, photo art and a acrostic poem. These will be showed below enjoy↴

This was the art that we call staby art. To make this we first drawed something kiwiana, then sellotaped another piece of paper to the back of it, next we get a compress and start stabing it to make it look like the picture we drawed, after that take off the sellotape and put it on the window and the sun will shine through the holes.

And finally the acrostic poem and to me this is the most easyest to do
out of the art above. First you  get a piece of paper and write down your name or what
ever you want. Then we wrote something that we are good at or like starting with the letters that go down. Next we drawed pictures of what we wrote to make it stand out.

And that was a bit of the art we have been doing in term 1. These were all fun to do and I totally recommend it to do at home or at school. I do thank you for reading the blog, it was really fun to make the art and fun blog about the art.
THE 3ND
Next we had our photo art, so what we did was take a photo of us pulling a face. Then we printed them out in black   and white and cut them in half. Finally we drawed the side we cut, I was really proud of myself and every ones turned out so good. They really make the classroom pop.

Measurement- making catapult

Measurement

For maths room 11 has been making Catapults to burn down down hill- I mean test how far they will go. We had to do each thing 3 times but because of problems I could only did each 1 once but it was enough to put into one graph.😜
It reads this:
White bead 936cm
pink bead 729cm
pepple 727cm
button 581cm
Here is a graph how far each thing when on the catapult.
It toke 1 week to make and test them. We tested them on the school courts and while most kids got to test each thing 3 times I only got the time to do each thing once sorry. But I have got some photos↧
